I played this piece on tuba in orchestra my final semester of high school. I remember that concert vividly through the conductor/orchestra director's conductioning style. So passionate and emotion-filled. I like coming back to this piece to think about how much my life has changed since then.

Probably my all-time favorite we played in high school band. Freshman year, 1979!

My band had a senior drum major that conducted this piece a year ago. He just graduated and I’m our band made it our yearly tradition for our drum major to conduct it at every graduation. Graduation is coming up soon and I just know I’m going to sob.. again. This piece is absolutely beautiful and has so much meaning.

For this winter concert, I wasn’t in the concert band (I was in chorus) but now I am going to be in it at spring! This was one of the songs for the concert following union march, flight of the bandshee (whatever) and quantum mission (I think.) They sounded so good!

We won a competition in Georgia (during the Peach Bowl 1998, Best concert band performance). We were just a tiny school from VA! I miss my bass clarinet days. This song def gives me the chills and makes me choke up. 2:34-3:31 😢 We sounded so lovely. I guess it was a favorite part of the song for me because I was the only bass line during that played.
